Effective Field Theory islands from perturbative and nonperturbative four-graviton amplitudes

چکیده
Theoretical data obtained from physically sensible field and string theory models suggest that gravitational Effective Field Theories (EFTs) live on islands are tiny compared to current general bounds determined unitarity, causality, crossing symmetry, a good high-energy behavior. In this work, we present explicit perturbative nonperturbative $2 \to 2$ graviton scattering amplitudes their associated low-energy expansion in spacetime dimensions $D\geq 4$ support notion. Our new results include first example consisting of $D=4$, $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric is coupled weakly gravity. We show model lies the same identified using four-dimensional based minimally-coupled matter circulating loop. Furthermore, generalize previous massive spin-0 spin-1 states loop $D$ dimensions. Remarkably, again find EFT coefficients lie small islands. These offer useful guide towards constraining possible extensions Einstein

Nonperturbative decoupling and effective field theory.
We examine recent claims that nonperturbative effects can prevent the decoupling of a heavy fermion whose mass arises from a Yukawa coupling to a scalar field. We show that in weakly coupled, four dimensional models such as the standard model with heavy mirror fermions the effects of the heavy fermions can always be accounted for by local operators involving light fields. We contrast this with ...
متن کاملNonperturbative Continuity in Graviton Mass versus Perturbative Discontinuity
We address the question whether a graviton could have a small nonzero mass. The issue is subtle for two reasons: there is a discontinuity in the mass in the lowest tree-level approximation, and, moreover, the nonlinear four-dimensional theory of a massive graviton is not defined unambiguously. First, we reiterate the old argument that for the vanishing graviton mass the lowest tree-level approx...
متن کاملOn Graviton Scattering Amplitudes in M-Theory
We compute graviton scattering amplitudes in M-theory using Feynman rules for a scalar particle coupled to gravity in eleven dimensions. The processes that we consider describe the single graviton exchange and the double graviton exchange, that in M(atrix) theory correspond to the v/rand v/r-term respectively. We further show that the v/r-term appearing in M(atrix) theory at two-loops can be ob...
متن کاملAre Pions Perturbative in Effective Field Theory?
It is shown that pions can be included perturbatively into effective field theory only for the external momenta, well below the pion mass. But for such low energies it is not necessary to include pions explicitly. 03.65.Nk, 11.10.Gh, 12.39.Fe, 13.75.Cs. Typeset using REVTEX
